Recently I had a situation where I needed my product key for win2k but misplaced it somewhere. I came across this cool tool that finds it for you. You run it on your PC and it goes through the registry and finds it for you. Takes all of half a second to complete and works on all Windows Operating Systems as far as I can tell.
